Nokia N10 Triple Boot Phone Runs Android, MeeGo and Windows Phone Mango

Here we are again, with a beautiful Nokia concept phone, one created by Mohammed Shihuzaan. Dubbed the Nokia N10, this model is a triple boot phone, that runs Android 2.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, Windows Phone Mango and MeeGo Harmattan.

It’s got a white anodized aluminum casing and a very unusual design. I have to say that I haven’t quite seen a lot of asymmetrical industrial designs, but this is one of them. The unit is curved to the left side and the right side bezel is certainly larger than the almost non existing one on the left. Nokia N10 uses a 3.9 inch capacitive screen with 480 x 854 pixel resolution.

LED buttons are placed at the bottom, each with a different use in different operating systems. The specs of the N10 also include 1GB of RAM, Dolby Mobile sound enhancement, 16GB/32GB of internal memory and a dual core 1.2GHz processor. An 8 megapixel camera is found at the back, complete with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, dual LED flash and 1080p 30 fps video capture.

This model also resembles a sail pretty much, which is a very original approach to industrial design.

MeeGo-powered Nokia N9 must be coming really really soon.

I mean, why else would the Finnish company release this teaser video now?

So what details about Nokia N9 do we get from the clip?

1. Nokia N9 is a touchscreen phone with a horizontal slide-out QWERTY keyboard, just like Nokia N900.

Like Nokia E7 though, Nokia N9 has a hinge that tilts the screen when you slide it out.

2. Nokia N9 flaunts a 12 MegaPixel AutoFocus camera with Dual LED flash. The lens is also similar to that found on Nokia N8; Carl Zeiss Tessar 2.8/28

3. Nokia N9's user interface features squarecle app icons just like Symbian Anna.

4. Multi-tasking interface on what appears to be MeeGo OS shows all active windows, which is a lot like what you see on Maemo OS.

5. Nokia N9 has a front-facing camera.

Nice.

Now, I don't know about you but I think the device in the clip is the same as the supposed Nokia N9 smartphone leaked by Eldar Murtazin way back in August 2010 --

Nokia's Windows Phones will feature dual-core ST-Ericsson U8500, says STMicroelectronics chief

As you'll no doubt be aware, Qualcomm currently enjoys a stranglehold on processing hardware inside Windows Phone handsets. Its Snapdragon chip stars in both Microsoft's original and updated chassis spec for the platform, but its hegemony may soon be coming to an end. STMicroelectronics (the ST in ST-Ericsson) boss Carlo Bozotti is cited by Forbes as saying that Nokia will use ST-Ericsson hardware to power at least some of its Windows Phones. The dual-core U8500, a long-time Nokia favorite, is touted as the first such system-on-chip to appear, with its successors helping to populate Nokia's expansive WP lineup in 2012. The only intel we've had so far on Nokia's initial handsets for the new OS revolved around Qualcomm-based devices, so even if ST-Ericsson is indeed going to infiltrate the Windows Phone ecosystem, it doesn't look likely to be among the very first Nokias out of the gate.

Glass is the essential enabling material of this new world. “This is a visual world – so transparency is a must,” explains Wendell. But that’s just the beginning. Ubiquitous displays require materials that are flexible, durable, stable under the toughest of environmental conditions, and have a cool, touch-friendly aesthetic. And not just any glass will do. This world requires materials that are strong, yet thin and lightweight; that can enable complex electronic circuits and nano functionality; that can scale for very large applications, and that are also environmentally friendly. This world calls for the kind of specialty glass made by Corning.

Such real-time information also depends on communications networks with massive bandwidth capacity – meaning new opportunities for Corning to apply its optical communications expertise to customers’ tough challenges.

Does the world showcased in “A Day Made of Glass” seem like something out of a fantasy movie? Android will rule the smartphones, WP7 will be second, says Gartner

According to the analysts over at Gartner, Android will be the most popular mobile OS in the next four years reaching almost 50% market share. Meanwhile Windows Phone will catch up and overtake the second place from iOS by 2015 with 20% market share.

This is what the latest Gartner's report predicts. Quite expectedly the Symbian market share is shrinking rapidly, while those of Android's and Windows Phone will go up.

Apple's iOS will have the second place by the end of 2012, but Microsoft will overtake it by 2015. It seems both Android and iOS will lose some users in favor of Windows Phone. It's predicted that when this happens Apple will change its pricing policy in order to maintain its share.

RIM will also have a user withdrawal when its migration from BlackBerry OS to QNX, the OS behind the Playbook, starts in 2012 (we're not sure we've heard of those plans before) .

It seems there will be two major changes in the next four years - Android will be the king of the mobiles (eating the Symbian pie), while the Microsoft-Nokia cooperation will push the Windows Phone up to the second place. It seems logical, but we'll wait and see how things will turn up.

We already saw quite similar predictions in the IDC report a week ago. There are a few minor differences into the distribution of shares (a bit smaller Android share and a bigger Windows Phone one in 2015), but both reach to the same conclusion – Android will be the biggest player in 2015 and Windows Phone will beat iOS for the second place.

Another thing that is worth mentioning is we could expect doubled smartphones sales in 2012 (compared to 2010).

It seems Gartner also didn’t foresee any major players entering the smartphone market. Just like the IDC report, the Gartner’s one also doesn’t see Bada OS as a major player in the next four years. Another think that pops in mind is they think Apple will sit back and stay calm when it’s losing market share. What we are trying to say is there are just too many variables and not all of them were taken in consideration. So these predictions might apply in some version of our world, but can’t be a reliable source in our dynamic life.

Only 200 have been made.
